Shruvi is a free push-to-talk dictation app for Windows 10 and 11. Hold a hotkey, speak, and your words land directly in Outlook, Word, Edge, Slack, Teams, Notion, VS Code, or any other Windows app you are using. AI cleanup handles the punctuation.

Windows 10 and 11 · Free · No credit card · No word limits

Why Shruvi for Windows voice typing

  • Hold-to-talk global hotkey — speak only while the key is held, no floating panel to manage.
  • AI cleanup automatically adds punctuation, removes filler words like "um" and "uh", and tightens phrasing.
  • Works in every Windows app via standard paste — Outlook, Teams, Edge, Chrome, Slack, Word, VS Code, Notion, anywhere.
  • Personal dictionary for names, jargon, and acronyms the model would otherwise mishear.

How it works

  1. Install Shruvi from shruvi.com/download/windows. If SmartScreen warns you, click More info, then Run anyway.
  2. Grant microphone access on first launch and pick your hotkey in Settings (default is Control + Shift + Space).
  3. Hold the hotkey and speak naturally — release when you are done.
  4. Within about a second, Shruvi pastes the cleaned-up text into the focused app.

What you can do with it

  • Reply to email in Outlook or the Gmail web app without typing.
  • Send messages in Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Discord by voice.
  • Draft documents in Word, Google Docs, or Notion at speaking speed.
  • Dictate code comments, commit messages, and PR bodies in VS Code or Cursor.
  • Fill out CRM entries, support tickets, and web forms hands-free.
  • Capture quick notes straight into OneNote, Obsidian, or any notes app.

Privacy

Audio is captured locally on your PC, streamed over an encrypted connection to the Shruvi backend, transcribed, and discarded as soon as the text is returned. Raw audio is never retained on Shruvi's servers and is never used to train any model. If you are signed in, transcript text may be stored on your account so history and sync work across devices — you can delete it at any time. Full details on the Privacy Policy.

FAQ

Which versions of Windows does Shruvi support?

Shruvi supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 on x64. The download is a standard installer.

How is Shruvi different from the built-in Windows voice typing (Win + H)?

Win + H opens a small floating panel tied to the OS speech engine. Shruvi uses a customizable global hotkey you can hold push-to-talk style, applies AI cleanup, supports a personal dictionary, and pastes directly into the focused app.

Will Windows SmartScreen warn me when I install Shruvi?

On first download, Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway. The installer is signed-by-hash and published from the official GitHub release.

Does Shruvi work in any app on Windows?

Yes. Shruvi pastes into the focused app like any other clipboard paste, so it works in Outlook, Word, Edge, Chrome, Slack, Teams, Discord, Notion, VS Code, and any other app that accepts keyboard input.
